Lokesh Kanagaraj Confirms Kaithi 2 and Vikram 2 as Next Films, Talks About Master 2 and Leo 2!

Acclaimed filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, the mastermind behind the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), has officially revealed that his immediate next project is Kaithi 2, followed by Vikram 2. While fans have been speculating and eagerly awaiting updates about sequels to his other blockbusters, such as Master and Leo, Lokesh addressed those projects as well, sharing an honest update on the challenges ahead, particularly regarding Leo 2 and Master 2.

Kaithi 2 Is the Immediate Next

Kaithi 2 is my immediate next,” Lokesh confirmed in a recent interaction, putting to rest months of speculation. The film is a highly anticipated sequel to his breakout 2019 hit Kaithi, which starred Karthi in the lead role as Dilli, a recently released prisoner who is pulled into a night-long cat-and-mouse game involving drug lords, police, and his long-lost daughter.

“Kaithi laid the foundation for what would become the LCU. Dilli is a character I feel very close to, and I’ve always wanted to revisit him and continue his journey. The ending of Kaithi left a lot of room for a bigger story, and that’s exactly what we’re going to explore in the sequel,” Lokesh shared.

While the original Kaithi was lauded for its tight screenplay, gritty action, and absence of a heroine or song sequences, Lokesh assured that the sequel will stay true to that DNA, with even higher stakes.

“We’ve had a lot of time to flesh out Kaithi 2. It’s going to be darker, more intense, and emotionally deeper. It will connect even more strongly with the events of Vikram and the rest of the LCU,” he added.

Vikram 2 Will Follow

Following Kaithi 2, Lokesh confirmed that Vikram 2 is also in the pipeline. After the phenomenal success of Vikram (2022), which marked the comeback of Kamal Haasan in a full-fledged action avatar, the expectations for the sequel are massive.

“Vikram is a universe in itself,” Lokesh said. “It’s not just about one man. It’s about an entire network of characters — heroes, villains, shadow players. Vikram 2 will expand on that. It will show what comes after the fall of Sandhanam, the impact of Amar’s choices, and of course, Vikram’s next mission.”

While he remained tight-lipped about plot details, Lokesh hinted that the sequel would dive deeper into the world of RAW agents, underworld syndicates, and the elusive “Ghost” team.

“We are building up towards something very big with Vikram 2 and the films that follow,” Lokesh said. “But I want to take my time to make sure the story organically grows, not just forced because of success.”

What About Master 2 and Leo 2?

Naturally, fans have been hoping for sequels to Master (2021), starring Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi, and Leo (2023), which brought Vijay into the LCU fold with a layered, violent character study.

Addressing these expectations, Lokesh clarified:

“I also love to do Master 2, Leo 2… but Vijay sir will not be available,” he said candidly.

“Vijay sir is heading into politics now. His plate is full. So while I would love to collaborate with him again and revisit JD or Leo Das, it’s not practically possible soon.”

Lokesh added that Master holds a special place in his heart, as it was a turning point in his career and a movie that reached the masses in a big way during a tough post-COVID time.

Master gave me a chance to work with Vijay sir for the first time. The energy he brings, the charisma — it’s unmatched. But even he said clearly during Leo promotions that this might be one of his last films before he shifts focus to politics. I respect that,” he said.

The Future of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe

With Kaithi 2 and Vikram 2 confirmed, and characters like Amar (Fahadh Faasil), Dilli (Karthi), and Vikram (Kamal Haasan) firmly in place, fans are excited to see how Lokesh builds out the interconnected universe of his films. When asked if there’s a grand Avengers-style crossover film coming, Lokesh smiled:

“We’re working towards something, yes. It’s all part of a long-term vision. But I want each film to stand on its own — strong stories, unique characters, and different tones. Kaithi 2 is survival and emotion, Vikram is espionage and family, and Leo was about identity and inner demons. I don’t want to lose that diversity in storytelling.”

He also hinted at the return of Rolex, played by Suriya, whose brief but explosive cameo in Vikram left a massive impression.

“Rolex is coming back, of course,” he said with a grin. “You’ll see more of him in the future. He’s very important to what happens next.”

Lokesh’s Creative Process and Responsibility

Lokesh acknowledged the weight of expectations from fans, but said he remains grounded and focused on delivering original, compelling stories.

“Every time I go to set, I remind myself that it all started with a love for storytelling. Not fan service, not box office. That love has to come first. I’m grateful for the LCU, for Vijay sir, Kamal sir, Karthi, Suriya, Fahadh; they’ve all given me so much. But now it’s about giving back to the audience, one honest film at a time.”

In Conclusion

With Kaithi 2 and Vikram 2 lined up, and the LCU expanding at a thrilling pace, Lokesh Kanagaraj is shaping one of the most exciting film universes in Indian cinema. While Master 2 and Leo 2 remain dreams for now due to Vijay’s political commitments, Lokesh is moving forward with clarity and ambition.

He signed off by saying, “There’s a lot more coming. I just ask fans to be patient, I promise it’ll be worth the wait.”
